Bee welfare first
The health and wellbeing of the colony come before production. Honey is harvested only when there is a genuine surplus.
Old Fort Honey Co. began with a growing concern about the noticeable lack of bees around English Harbour and a desire to create something local, lasting and genuinely connected to Antigua.
The name Old Fort reflects the historic character of Monk’s Hill and English Harbour, and the heritage that still shapes the landscape around us today.
The stone arch at the heart of our identity is inspired by Fort George on Monk’s Hill. We wanted the brand to feel unmistakably local — not like a generic island souvenir, but like something truly connected to the land, the ruins, the flora and the atmosphere of Antigua.
That same thinking guides the whole business. Our honey should feel rooted in a real place, cared for properly and produced in a way that respects the bees that make it possible.
What began as a concern about pollinators in the English Harbour area became a wider commitment: support healthy colonies, care for the landscape around them and build a local honey brand the right way from the beginning.
We are not trying to force honey production. We are trying to build healthy colonies and harvest responsibly when nature allows.
We started by paying attention — noticing fewer bees and thinking seriously about what that means for plants, wildlife and the wider environment.
The first apiary is designed as a measured beginning, allowing us to understand local forage, heat, drought, water demand, temperament and colony performance before expanding.
Expansion should follow colony health and proven demand, not pressure to rush production or overextend the bees.
Old Fort Honey Co. is intended for Antiguan households as well as visitors — a local product with real everyday value, not only a premium gift item.
Every decision — from the way we manage colonies to the way we present the honey — is meant to support a business that feels genuine, measured and connected to Antigua.
The health and wellbeing of the colony come before production. Honey is harvested only when there is a genuine surplus.
The business is being developed carefully, using the first apiary as a practical learning period before larger expansion.
The label, language and imagery are rooted in Fort George, Monk’s Hill and the wider English Harbour landscape.
Our aim is simple: produce genuine Antiguan honey with a clear sense of origin, careful handling and long-term integrity.
Old Fort Honey Co. is designed to serve Antiguan households, visitors, gift buyers and future stockists with a product range that feels both practical and distinctive.
An approachable everyday expression of the local landscape in practical household sizes.
A more limited release that celebrates the individual character of one frame and one harvest.
A brand built to expand carefully into stockists, hospitality and specialty retail without losing its local character.
To create a recognisable local honey brand that is grown, loved and nurtured in Antigua — while always protecting the bees, respecting the landscape and staying rooted in Monk’s Hill and English Harbour.
Old Fort Honey Co. is still at the beginning of its story, but the direction is clear: keep healthy bees, harvest responsibly and build something Antigua can be proud of.
